🔧 Edge Devices & Hardware

What is an Edge Device?

An Edge Device in IRIS+ is a hardware or software component deployed on-site to process video analytics locally. It connects directly to IP cameras, runs AI detection agents in real-time, and reduces bandwidth usage by sending only metadata (not raw video) to the cloud or on-premise servers. Edge Devices support hybrid deployments and are managed via the IRIS+ portal.

How do I set up an Edge Device?

Connect the edge device to the network, ensure it’s connected to the cloud or on-premise Core and configure the edge device and cameras simply through our easy-to-use web portals. Log in via its IP, configure endpoints (e.g., edge.irisity.io), and add it to a folder in the IRIS+ portal.

What is a Core Server?

The IRIS+ Core Server is a pre-configured management hub for small to mid-sized installations. It centrally connects up to 100 cameras via Edge devices across single or multiple sites, enabling cost-effective deployment for tasks like perimeter security, facility monitoring, or retail analytics. It integrates seamlessly with existing camera systems and video management software (VMS).

How many cameras can an Edge Device handle?

Depends on hardware specs, video profiles (e.g., H.264/1080p/30 FPS), and scene activity (low/medium/high). Example: An Edge 10 appliance typically processes ~10 cameras.

What are the hardware requirements for an Edge Device?

When installing any Edge device with IRIS+, minimum specifications are required to support and maintain a healthy system. Read more in button below to learn about what is needed for each Edge type.

Can Edge Devices operate offline?

Yes. Edge Devices cache metadata during temporary Core Server outages and sync once connectivity is restored.

What firewall rules are required for Edge Devices?

IRIS+ only requires outbound traffic on standard ports to be allowed, so for most networks no firewall configuration is needed.

How do I add cameras to an Edge Device?

In the IRIS+ portal’s Physical View, select the Edge device > Cameras > Add > enter RTSP/ONVIF URL.

Can I use dynamic IPs for cameras?

We recommend cameras to have static IPs to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

🔐 Security & Compliance

Is IRIS+ GDPR-compliant?

Yes. IRIS+ adheres to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and incorporates privacy-by-design principles. Customers are always the data controllers, determining the purposes and means of processing personal data. Irisity acts as a data processor, processing data solely under the customer's instructions. This distinction is outlined in Irisity's Privacy Policy.

Who is responsible for video data in IRIS+?

In all deployments whether cloud, hybrid, or on-premise, the customer is the data controller for the video data they collect using our systems. This means the customer is responsible for ensuring that the collection and processing of video data comply with applicable laws and regulations. Irisity processes video data strictly according to the customer's instructions, as detailed in the Video Privacy Policy.

How is data encrypted?

IRIS+ uses strong industry-standard encryption to protect both data at rest and data in transit. All systems handling confidential data are encrypted using XTS-AES-256 or stronger. When data is transmitted over public or untrusted networks, IRIS+ uses encryption based on RSA with 2048-bit keys or better, following secure key exchange and protocol negotiation standards. For cloud deployments, video and metadata are protected using encryption services provided by Google Cloud Platform (GCP). These include hardware-backed key storage and customer-managed encryption keys where required. For on-premise installations, customers retain full control over their storage and network environment. Irisity recommends and supports encrypted deployments, and tools such as BitLocker or equivalent must be used for securing endpoints and storage devices. Encryption protocols are applied across: -Stored video recordings and metadata -User credentials and authentication tokens -Communication between system components -Remote access via VPNs and 2FA-enforced tunnels This approach ensures confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information and supports compliance with GDPR and ISO/IEC 27001 requirements.

Does IRIS+ support role-based access?

Yes. Admins assign permissions via Security Groups, restricting folder/camera access enabling restriction of access by folder, camera, or specific features. This ensures that users have access only to the data and functionalities necessary for their roles.

How do I enable two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Users configure 2FA via Account Settings > Configure Authenticator using an app like Google Authenticator.

What audit logs are available?

IRIS+ logs user actions, system changes, and access attempts for compliance audits.

How does IRIS+ support privacy through anonymization?

IRIS+ includes features like black masking, dynamic masking, and background masking to anonymize individuals in live and recorded video. At sensitive installations, such as schools, complete anonymization is employed, where detected individuals are white-masked or replaced with low-resolution versions to hide identities. This approach aligns with GDPR's "Privacy by Design" principle.

How can customers exercise their data protection rights?

Customers have the right to access, rectify, or delete their personal data processed by Irisity. Requests can be directed to Irisity's Customer Success team at success@irisity.com or by mail to: Data Protection Officer Irisity AB (publ) Lindholmspiren 7 417 56 Göteborg, Sweden

🔑 Licensing

How does floating licensing work?

Licenses are not tied to specific cameras. Admins can reassign AI analytics between cameras via the IRIS+ portal.

Do Edge Devices require separate licenses?

No. Licenses are applied per camera, not per Edge Device.

How do I request a license certificate?

Licenses are issued electronically after purchase order confirmation.

Can licenses be shared between users?

Yes. Concurrent licenses allow shared access, while Named User licenses are assigned to individuals.
